Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC)
As most companies are now aware, the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme is a new, mandatory, energy saving and carbon emissions reduction scheme for the UK. It has been designed to act as an incentive to improve energy efficiency and and to help large private and public sector organisations generate cost savings through reduced energy consumption. If managed properly, these savings should far exceed the cost of participation.
UESL's background is in metering and monitoring and for years have been providing its clients with a multitude of reports including bill validations, consumptions per meter and CO2 emissions. Therefore, long established processes have been in place to provide a complete CRC solution.
Why outsource CRC?
- The amount of paperwork involved will be staggering. For example, a company with 30 sites could easily produce 2,160 separate bills (30 sites x 2 bills x 12 months x 3 yrs).
- Each bill then has to be collated and converted into CO2 tonnes. For example, a £3m annual consumption would produce approximately 21,000 tonnes of CO2. (Incorrect reporting or calculations are fined at £40/tonne).
- The scheme has a range of significant civil penalties to enforce compliance, as well as criminal offences for falsification, obstruction and non-compliance with enforcement notices.
- Bills are often calculated based on estimated usage and there are strict penalties for any mistakes in consumption data and CO2 emissions (£5,000 + 5p/tonne/day).
- Many companies have had a number of different suppliers each with separate contractual issues, estimated bills and incorrect payments.
- In the first year of the CRC, the early action metric will act as the sole indicator of performance within the league table calculations so it's important to get things right from the start. (If not, companies could lose up to 19.25% of initial outlay, as per the Governments own examples.)
- The whole aim of the scheme is not only to monitor and report but to actively reduce CO2 emissions. (Failure to provide qualification information could cost a fine of up to £45,000).
- We are industry experts and employ award winning energy managers.
- We have the unique ability of what is seen by most as an expenditure into a cost saving, profit generating solution.
- The e:so|net, web based billing and reporting platform, already supports over 1.5 million meter points in US and UK.
We have a wealth of experience in this field and have been in a position to provide our clients with CO2 reports for many years. Using advanced technology and systems we are well equipped to ensure costs are reduced for any sized company - giving us a competitive edge and a total energy solution.
